Fifty years after the debut of the hit television series "Lassie," strangers still stop Jon Provost on the street to tell him how much they enjoyed the show, which debuted in 1954, ran for 17 successful seasons and has never left the national consciousness. Provost was cast as Timmy in 1957 and became one of television's first child stars. He left the show after seven years (its highest rated seasons) and experienced depression, unemployment and financial woes before returning to the entertainment industry, marrying wife Laurie Jacobson and coming to terms with his celebrity childhood. Provost's new autobiography, "Timmy's in the Well," chronicles his acting career, his turbulent teen years and his post-Hollywood life.

At-home parties are the perfect entertainment for recessionary times, and vendors say consumers are seeking Christmas themed party products that will foster a festive ambiance at 2009 holiday get-togethers. Traditional-with-a-twist seems to be the trend in tableware styles; consumers find comfort in classic imagery, but they also appreciate the fact that new design elements or fresh colors can bring excitement to a Christmas dinner party or other holiday get-together.
